    Till Endemann / Subtitled, Narrative Feature, Saturday, Oct. 6 / Germany / 2017 / 88 mins
Johannes (Edgar Selge) and his wife Lydia (Franziska Walser) are good, Christian people. He’s the preacher at the evangelical church they run together; she handles administrative duties and helps write his sermons. They’re genuinely decent people, preaching the gospel and doing their best to do what’s right. The couple has earned the respect of their congregation, and thanks to their efforts the parish is on the verge of an expansion, with plans to build an elaborate new community center.

There’s a bit of a stereotype around lesbians: that they stay friends with their exes. For Océanerosemarie (director Océane Michel), this is a bit of an understatement. See, Océane has many exes. Many. Many, many. And she’s friends with every last one of them.

  4. Program 10: Anchor and Hope (Tierra firme)

    Carlos Marques-Marcet / Subtitled, Narrative Feature, Saturday, Oct. 6 / Spain, UK / 2017 / 113 mins
One of the most refreshing things about Anchor and Hope is that sexual orientation isn’t really a plot point. Nobody comes out. There are no homophobic characters or issues. It’s essentially a romantic comedy/drama that happens to feature a lesbian couple rather than a straight one. A breath of fresh air, truly.
